This grade 2+ original blues by Ron Poorman, has nice unison and soli room for the Sax section and is open for solos by anyone in the band. A solo sheet has suggestions for beginning improvisors. It has a harmon mute written solo for trumpet after the written rhythm section opening then a unison Sax soli followed by a harmonized Sax soli. The bridge is brass figures. There is a unison band chorus that hints of Gerry Mulligan's Walking Shoes, C Jam Blues, and Watermellon Man. Black & Gold Blues was written for the Southern Regional Lab Band directed by Jennifer Poorman Hodgson.
