Welcome to Quality Band Transcriptions, Original Compositions and More at RonPoormanMusic.com

After working with school bands, college bands, military service bands, and community bands for many years (over 60, but who is counting?), I realized that many of today's finest band musicians DO NOT have even a basic knowledge of the great orchestral literature.

Back in 1965 I wrote my Master's Thesis at Ithaca College on the importance of bands playing only band literature, because at that time only a minimum of good band music was written and the really great composers needed to be convinced bands were worth writing for.  Over the past 50 years thousands of pieces were written for band and hundreds qualify as significant musically.

The problem is that now many of our high school, college and community band members have little knowledge of the great orchestral works, many of which could be transcribed and played artistically by a wind band.  I have carefully chosen orchestral pieces that are now public domain and lend themselves to sounding great when played by a wind band. These are all pieces every musician must know and perhaps learn to love.

I HOPE YOU WILL AGREE WITH ME THAT BANDS SHOULD SUPPLEMENT THEIR REPERTOIRE WITH AN OCCASSIONAL ORCHESTRAL TRANSCRIPTION EVEN IF IT IS ONLY FOR THE MUSICAL EDUCATION OF THEIR MEMBERS.

Check out my pieces on the "Shop" link above or below. If you have a suggestion for my next project be sure to let me know and perhaps  contact me for a commission with your band's name on it. - Ron Poorman

This exciting new march was composed by my wife Karen Poorman and me for the South Jersey Area Wind Ensemble's June 9, 2024 concert called Banding Together and dedicated to SJAWE and the Association of Concert Bands. SJAWE combined with the Quakertown, PA band for a wonderful two days of music and friendship that culminated in the concert.
